You’ve probably been asked this question in the past – it is called “The Trolley Dilemma” and it puts you in the position of having to decide whether to kill one person to save the lives of others. (full article here).

How would you go about programming this and why would you want to?

Given the inevitable rise of autonomous vehicles, the situation is going to arise: should the car perform an action to save the lives of its passengers at the cost of an innocent pedestrian, or should the pedestrian be spared even if the occupants might be killed?

There are many questions that we are yet to answer. Who would be liable? The software developer? The driver? The car manufacturer? (original BBC article here)
