Project Conception
This is the first step in the project lifecycle.
It is the point at which the objective or need is identified. It can either be a known problem that needs a solution, or it can be an opportunity – think Dragons’ Den.
At this point, a business case is drawn up: the business case documents why there is a need for this project to be undertaken along with suggested ways in which the project can be completed.
Each of these solutions undergoes a feasibility study to determine whether or not it actually meets the project requirements, and a recommended solution is chosen. Another part of the feasibility study includes asking “Can we do this” and “Should be do this”.
At this point, the project has been initiated, and a project manager is appointed to it.
