Direct and indirect advertising
Advertising can take many forms. Although this is not an advertising course, you should be aware of the following distinctions:
- Direct advertising
- Indirect advertising
Direct advertising is marketing that is targeted directly to a user. For example, sales calls, direct emails, mailed flyers, or paid and targetted advertising on social media.
Indirect advertising is essentially ‘getting someone else to advertise for you’ – for example:
- Newspaper articles
- Word of mouth
- Fan pages
- Social media influencers
- Online reviews
Please note that both lists above are purely indicative, and there are other methods that can be categorised as either of those.
