Data processing functions
Anything that manipulates data or alters the flow of it through a system is a data processing function.
Once data has been collected it must be processed in order to understand it.
The processing of data generates information – that is, something that is usable. Data that is not processed is rarely usable.
Examples of data processing include:
- Aggregation
- Averaging
- Categorisation (e.g. into age groups)
- As training information for AI systems
