Confidentiality and security

On your own personal social media accounts, you may be happy to share every detail of your life. Although it is possible for companies to want to share every detail of their working day online in real time, for most this simply isn’t true. Asides from anything else, what does your company do? It could be top secret research, and you wouldn’t enjoy the meeting with your boss to try and explain why you’d publicised that work.

It is therefore standard to address confidentiality and security in a social media policy. This will describe what is and isn’t allowed to be shared – perhaps information such as:

  • Location
  • Line of work
  • Details about work
  • Client details
  • Governmental affiliations (e.g. security, secrecy)
